This is what happens when I don't practice yoga

I sit at my computer, I read the news on the web, and I get all pissed off at utterly banal stuff like this: Donald Trump handpicking the cast members, um, I mean, job candidates for The Apprentice, Season 4. And by "handpicking", I mean "doesn't he just wish that his hands were doing the picking". According to today's New York Times:

"We have an ex-stripper who is tough as nails," he said. And then there is Jennifer Murphy. Mr. Trump, who claims a certain expertise in the area, described her as "one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen."

He said some of the show's producers advised him against selecting her: "They said she was too beautiful. I said, 'Excuse me, there is no such thing as too beautiful.' They said, 'Donald she's so beautiful, she's not credible.' I said, 'No. 1, she happens to be smart. No. 2, she's very beautiful - congratulations, she's going on the show.' There wasn't going to be another 'Apprentice' 3 thing where I end up with a cast where I have to pick people to work for me and I don't believe in them."

Mr. Trump admitted it wouldn't be easy to consider firing a bona fide beauty queen. "I try to be objective," he said. "But beauty is an unfair advantage for certain people. When they came up with the wonderful statement, all men are created equal, never has there been a more false statement. It sounds brilliant; it reads beautifully. But some people are geniuses. Some are beautiful."

Finally...a Reality TV show that is based on reality! I mean, let's face it, when I was in the corporate world, the ex-strippers got all the promotions. And all the female partners in my law firm were beautiful because who could turn them down? Who wouldn't believe in a lawyer who was beautiful? I know that when I need a lawyer, accountant, financial adviser, what have you, I stick with the hotties. Like Trump says, some people are geniuses, some are beautiful. And who wants their business handled by someone who isn't photogenic?

Like I said, banal stuff. I need MENTAL STIMULATION!!! And "Diary of a Manhattan Call Girl" is SO NOT doing it, regardless of what Darren Star thinks.

did you know that your site has popup windows?

No...I did not! That sounds annoying. How do I get rid of them? Are you sure it isn't your browser that is allowing them?

i use firefox too...do you have spyware doctor? it is free - and i mean REALLY free - no pressure to sign up for an "upgrade" when they find the inevitable infections on your system. ever since i got spyware doctor, i have had no issues with popups. try it...(totally NOT getting paid for this!!!)

Honestly, the only one that ever seems to successfully block the popups for me is Spyware Doctor. I have Spybot and No Adware as well - but they never seem to catch anything. I think it probably is your computer....if you don't proactively stop the spyware, you get popups, regardless of whether you have Firefox or any of the other browsers that offer "pop-up protection". Anti-spyware is the first thing you need...then the pop-up protection can work better...

I don't know. That has been going on for the past 8 or 9 weeks - and I haven't taught that class since June. Somehow, that seems to me to be more in the nature of an oversight, whereas the workshop thing seems more likely to be deliberate. Again, I have no idea what the intent or motivation is, but it bugs me because my name (and reputation - or at least my bio) is being used to promote something that I have nothing to do with and that may or may not be up to my standards.

Yes, you do have a pop up that gets through on my MAC. It's not just anonymous.
Trump is a pig. Are you expecting more out of a man who divorces each wife after they age a bit and then gets another young one to break in.
I mean with his prenup agreement, he is basically buying HIMSELF a very high priced HOOKER!
Disgusting.
And yeah, TV rots, except for the Arrested Development and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Could one of you guys let me know what the pop-up is advertising? So, if it is , say, Bravenet, I will pull the plug on my Bravenet counter and go with a different one.

I don't watch AD or CYE...AD has never been on my radar screen - don't know when it's on. And CYE is so unpleasant to me, mainly because Larry David reminds me of every grumpy Jewish guy I have ever known (I can say that, being a member of the tribe, myself), and it is exruciatingly painful to watch him.

I did love SFU very very much, and Carnivale, which may or may not ever make it back to HBO. Do you ever read Television Without Pity? I have a feeling you would LOVE it.

Oh...and about the D word (Donald, that is), that is why I admitted that my annoyance was so banal...I mean, who ISN'T repulsed by him?

I know he's a bizillionaire, but really, how could a woman sleep with him.
I guess that's what you gotta do when you sell your soul to the D.
Donald or devil, interchangeable.
And Larry D is uncomfortable to watch..
But I love his wife.

Really? I find her a bit plastic. But then, I did enjoy her bemusement when she "allowed" Larry to pick up a woman for their 10 year anniversary...ha...now that was funny...

It's that bemused quality that I love.
