Anticlimactic Practick

This morning I taught a led primary series class, which was a lot of fun. I knew a lot of the students, including a friend's husband, which was nice. I think the students had a good practice - at least that's what they tell me.

Afterwards, there was no time for me to go downtown, and frankly, I am just toooooo tired, and I still have two vinyasa classes to teach later, which I hate to say it, but I am kind of dreading, just because I am preoccupied with tomorrow's surgery.

Long story short, I knew it was practice at home or no practice at all. So, I opted to put my mat down in my foyer and get to it. After completing most of the standing poses, I got distracted, started thinking about a sequence for tonights classes. And I ran and got my little yoga-notebook, and wrote down my thoughts. Then I decided I wanted to try out the sequence. It was fun - after an Ashtanga-like warm-up (Surya A, Surya B, five times each, padangustha, padahasta, uttka, Warrior I and Warrior II), I threw in a nice deep prayer-squat and a crow. Then Warrior I to II to Triangle to Ardha Chandrasana to Standing Split to Warrior III to Tree to Uttita Hasta Padangusthasana to Warrior I. Then the other side. Then Warrior I to Parsvotanasana to Revolved Triangle to Revolved Ardha Chandrasana to Warrior II to Uttita Parsva Konasana to Bound Parsva Konasana to Bound Ardha Chandrasana to a low, deep lunge to Eka Pada Raja Kapotasana with a strap around the foot, to Standing Split to Rock Star (a/k/aUpside Down Dog).

I never really make up the rest in advance - I usually move onto some form of backbends, then forward bends then an inversion and then a shoulderstand sequence before savasana. So, I just improvise all of that.

And as I write this, I am NOT doing the Primary Series. I just don't feel like it. I know that people say that sometimes, i's Surya A and B and then savasana. Well, I did way more than that, and I am teaching three classes, and as someone commented on here - who is my jury anyway? I guess...it's me...feeling pretty guilty about laming out on my last pre-op practice. I just don't feel it today, and I DID come to the mat, and that is what counts, right?

Good for you.
As someone who has criticized you in the past (I remain anonymous till the end!) I have to say, your dedication to your practice despite CRAZY outside obligations is VERY impressive. Good luck.

I live by a duck pond. I used to live by the East River. I don't work. I used to work a lot. Now, not so much. I used to teach a lot of yoga. Now not so much. I still practice a lot of yoga though. A LOT. I love my kids, being outdoors, taking photos, reading magazines, writing and stirring the pot. Enjoy responsibly.
