Someday, not even seventh series will be enough for you. Someone will have to invent an eighth series just for YC.

Lauren just needs enough poses (half way through intermediate?) so that she can open a studio and start teaching led primary in westchester county. there's a lack of ashtanga in that part of the world, for some odd reason.

You are great, Lauren.

The best pose I've read for a while.

Pose! Ha!! Freudian slip! You meant post, right, U?

Cody, I don't know what the problem is in Westchester with the lack of proper classical Yoga. There is a very successful Anusara studio in town, and I am invited to teach there, as long as I use the proper lingo, but after teaching for nearly four years, I can tell you that it hurts my brain to teach in a way that is not authentic to me. Soooo, I won't be doing that. There is also an Iyengar studio in town, but well, you know.

There is a studio in Greenwich, CT that is run by an Om-ie and an Ashtangi, who has a morning Mysore session. The studio is only 20 minutes from me, but I can't get there early enough (it ends at 8:30 a.m.). There is also a studio in Georgetown, CT, but, well, actually, maybe I will check it out. It certainly is closer than NYC. Although I LOVE my teachers in NYC, so the idea of going anywhere else, let alone BEING the teacher, is a bit unmotivating.

Get this: the median age in my town is 40. Everyone has kids pretty much, growing or grown. Perhaps that contributes to the lack of Ashtanga?

I would think that being "old" would actually make people more drawn to Ashtanga. I notice that people gravitate toward longer distances and harder undertakings when they are older. You don't see too many 20 year olds climbing Mt. Everest or running marathons. THere is no ashtanga shala in Colorado Springs so I can't really speak in an educated way about that. But I think something like running 26.2 miles or doing an epic climb or committing to mastering an entire Ashtanga series takes a certain level of maturity. Maybe if you can convince someone to let you teach a class you'd get some converts.

P.S. Anusara is kind of fun. Inner body bright! (Okay, that is kind of annoying, but I do like the practice).

Northern Westchester, New York, United States
I live by a duck pond. I used to live by the East River. I don't work. I used to work a lot. Now, not so much. I used to teach a lot of yoga. Now not so much. I still practice a lot of yoga though. A LOT. I love my kids, being outdoors, taking photos, reading magazines, writing and stirring the pot. Enjoy responsibly.
