Yoga Bunk: Debunked

Here's my latest Huff-Post post. To my commentator who suggested that yoga is boring me, perhaps because I am only practicing asana, well, I actually talk about that a bit in this article. But the bottom line for me is that asana is asana, and if I were doing more than asana, my asana practice would still bore me nonetheless.

I did have a delightful practice today. Who knows why, although I am sure that the fact that I ate only Hot and Sour Soup for dinner last night helped. Empty belly always helps when it comes to twisting and binding and lifting and jumping.

Then I ate half a jar of Nutella and completely null and voided all the benefits.

Such is.

Very cool Huffington entry...thank you for sharing that way. I do understand better now even though I am not a yogi :) I am considering getting started though. Is the way to less boredom a yoga system that is less bound to exact order of poses like Ashtanga? One that changes things up each time?

I don't know the answer to that question, Anon. I got more bored, more quickly with vinyasa classes that were not tied to a particular order than I got with Ashtanga. The order and structure of the Ashtanga sequence(s) makes it less boring, in general. I think my boredom stems from being relatively stuck in my backbends. In the first few years of my practice, I saw a lot of improvement rather quickly. Now it is sloooooow. I have to learn to tolerate that. It's part of the process.

Curious as to how you came to read my blog (and comment, which sometimes takes a bit of time to get going with, once you start reading a particular blog) though if you aren't a yogi.

Thanks for your insights YC :)
I found you while I was surfing around at a friend's urging at where a bunch of blogs are listed. I am no blogger myself but it's cool to connect here and there with intelligent, inspiring people like you when I do get online. I think I am going to start with a basic yoga class in my town and see how it goes from there :)

I live by a duck pond. I used to live by the East River. I don't work. I used to work a lot. Now, not so much. I used to teach a lot of yoga. Now not so much. I still practice a lot of yoga though. A LOT. I love my kids, being outdoors, taking photos, reading magazines, writing and stirring the pot. Enjoy responsibly.
